Field Trip Details
May 11 & 132 - Four Mile Fluorite - CCGC announes the first collecting field trip of the season to a series of abandoned fluorite quarries in Sand Gulch near Canon City on May 11 and May 13. We will meet at 9 o'clock at The Banks parking area for both events. Our member Bob Carnein will give a brief trailside lecture on the fluorite and what makes it so special. To sign up for these exciting field trips please contact Greg Sharp at : harleyguitar9@gmail.com before May 9 or May 11.
There is a sign up fee of $5 for adults but is free for minors with a parent or guardian. To pay by check or plastic please contact our treasurer Ann eulert at : aheulert@yahoo.com before May 9 or May 11.
All event fees are refundable if the event is cancelled for any reason. You may also request a refund by contacting me before May 9 or May 11. No shows will have made a donation to our club's general fund.
You must be a member of the Canon City Geology Club to participate in this event. Dogs on leash are welcome. This event does require a high ground clearance 4x4 but ATV, dirt bikes and side by sides are welcome as well. Ride sharing to the collecting areas will be necessary for some members and will be available.
Please be prepared with plenty of water, sun protection, and snacks, it will be a long day in the field! Surface collecting is very good but hard rock collecting is possible as well, so bring your collecting tools.
A short and long wave UV lamp would be very useful as well, these samples are fluorescent.
Directions to the Sand Gulch area and The Banks Parking area where we will meet:
From US HWY 50 in Canon, take Dozier Ave North. Follow it as it turns west. At the 4 way stop, turn right on Field Ave. Follow it North until it turns into CR9. In about 10 miles you will see Sand Gulch Campground on the left but we will meet and unload ATV's, dirt bikes and side by sides at the next entrance on the left for The Banks parking area. If you don't have a 4x4 you will catch a ride at The Banks.

Other field trips are being considered and will be added to calendar as they are scheduled.
